Circular Communities
Circular Communities is a cooperative storytelling game and community engagement tool that explores circular living through lived experience, collective knowledge, and everyday action. Through play, dialogue, and reflection, participants share repair traditions, reuse practices, and material stories, revealing how circular futures are already being shaped within communities.
Circular Communities is a cooperative storytelling and knowledge-sharing game designed to explore circularity through culture, participation, and lived experience. Developed through co-design workshops and community engagement, the project challenges dominant narratives that position the circular economy as a purely technical or expert-led transition.
Instead, the project centres the practices already present within communities: repairing, sharing, reusing, adapting, and caring for materials over time. Through collaborative gameplay, participants exchange stories, reflect on material histories, and collectively imagine alternatives to wasteful systems. The game creates opportunities for dialogue across generations, cultures, and experiences, recognising that valuable knowledge about circular living often exists outside formal institutions.
The project resulted in a cooperative game and story collection that function both as educational tools and as frameworks for ongoing community engagement. By bringing together storytelling, play, and circular thinking, Circular Communities demonstrates how joy, culture, and collective wisdom can contribute to more sustainable and equitable futures.
